work and children
I believe in training children to work at an early age. It empowers, gives a sense of importance, and equips for life. Its fun when your child actually enjoys work. My son showed interest at an early age so I gave him the job of putting away the dishwasher silverware. But we all need incentive to work... Thomas' is his chapstick in the little dish next to the knives. His daily ritual begins with, "Mom, you forgot my job!" He pulls up the chair, puts away a few spoons and then discovers his chapstick. After applying as much as possible ( he took a bite once and spit it into the forks..quickly learning its only for the outside of the mouth)he continues with the silverware.

love it when you post.
It's so true. Dad was just relating the story of one of those Historical Reality Shows on PBS where this 9 yr. old uber-rich kid from CA was assigned the job of digging the latrine for his family's cabin out in the wilderness. This little kid was so proud of the job he did because he knew that he was contributing to a real need of his family. Obviously he didn't feel needed in the same way back home on the mansion.
