Epiphany Jan. 6 celebration...

We had *almost* all the days represented... so fun!  The onion rings were amazing!

A Partridge in a Pear Tree stands for Jesus on the Tree

Six Geese a Laying stands for the six days of creation

Five Golden rings stand for the Torah, the first five books of the Bible

Epiphany traditionally celebrates the coming of the Magi to visit the Christ child...

How to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas today!

We made this lapbook a few years ago, thus the chocolate milk stains on the front! :-P (Hey this ain't Pinterest!), and reuse it starting the day after Christmas.  Its a really fun way to extend the Christmas season, and teach your kids the basics of the faith.  Whether you are Catholic or Protestant...I find it really useful and fun.  You may need to modify to your preference....

I found this book/CD set to help us learn the song...Each day of the 12 Days represents a part of our faith.  For example, the "partridge in the pear tree" is Jesus.  The "two turtle doves" are the Old and New Testaments.  The "three french hens" are the gifts of the Magi.  The "four calling birds" are the four gospels.  Each day has an activity.  Today, the kids are putting the Old and New Testament in order with printable flashcards.

There is a pocket for each set of flashcards.  I use my afternoon snack time as a time to teach the day.  We used this song when the kids got to the part they couldn't remember.  Its a fun rap song to learn the books of the Bible.

Celebrating Epiphany 2013

We love to do the 12 days of Christmas and end with Epiphany... it makes ending the holidays easier.... we may have to add one more day to our season as we just discovered that Ethiopian Christmas is January 7th!!  But this year the 7th marks the start of our church fast.

Chad found the baby in the bread.. (made in china?!)
I was delighted to hear from a friend about this 3 Kings cake in the hispanic tradition for our celebration.  We also awed ourselves with this movie:
