Cultivating Peace

"Contentment is one of the flowers of heaven, and if we would have it, it must be cultivated; it will not grow in us by nature; it is the new nature alone that can produce it, and even then we must be specially careful and watchful that we maintain and cultivate the grace which God has sown in us." Spurgeon

I believe the same thing about peace. In my struggle to overcome anger in my life, I have found that in me is no good thing, but victory comes by yielding to the spirit and letting His life pour out of me. I have to be "careful and watchful" to "maintain and cultivate" this grace. Peace is my choice to yield vs. control and trust vs. taking things into my own hands. It is my choice to turn my powerlessness over to the Great Provider. Peace is a rest in the goodness of God despite hard circumstances.

Oh, so true. It's amazing the power of choice. We can choose our response to any situation - to ask God to slow us down so that we can choose our response rather than just react heedlessly. Wiser choices lead to more peace experienced.
